You can be sure you’ve made the right choice with the Icelandic saddle pad from MATTES: it comes in a choice of three different sizes, so it is sure to fit your horse. Choose from a number of variations on our fluffy lambskin padding and trim. The optional Velcro keepers on the sides come in more than a dozen different shades, or as our PM system.

There is a possibility of dye bleeding into the horses hair or other materials from dark or bright colored skin, because of the horses-sweat or use of unsuitable washing detergent.
Strong dyed leather of saddles etc. can also leave discolorations.

The best choice for your horse - the lambskin pad in the saddle area.
MATTES lambskin in best premium quality provides good pressure distribution, balances temperature and reduces friction. Sweat and sebum can flow off unhindered - this reduces clogged glands. Did you know? Lambskin is also perfect for summer.

Lambskin options from Mattes for Islandic saddle pads
The right choice for every situation - individually tailored to horse and saddle.
Saddle seat area (semi lined) is equipped with lambskin in the area of the saddle panels and is our recommendation for most saddle pads.
Underside complete is equipped with our premium lambskin on the entire underside of the saddle pad. Recommended for very sensitive horses. Wool height approx. 30mm.
Without lambskin is of course also possible, if you do not want to use the advantages of the lambskin.
CCORRECTION® -System from MATTES
The Correction System developed by MATTES allows corrections of the saddle position flexibly and quickly up to 30mm.
Our POLY-FLEX® inserts have pressure properties that correspond to those of a good saddle padded with wool and horse hair. This is particularly important, for example, for the rapid physical development of young horses in training and for horses that have been standing for a long time. Every horse is different, our product adapts. We supply 3 inserts per bag.
Our Correction System is used, among other things, for:
- Different position of the shoulder
- Lowered back in older horses
- Different position of the hips
- Natural crookedness of the horse
- Young horses in training
- After illness
SADDLE-FIX® from MATTES
Non-slip on the saddle - even when jumping.
With the secure SADDLE-FIX® fastening system, the centre strip of the Mattes saddle panels can be conveniently fixed in the saddle chamber. This means that the saddle cloth remains enclosed and centred under the saddle. Perfect in combination with our CORRECTION® -System.
SPINEFREE® from MATTES
Reliably prevents pressure loads
Our SPINEFREE® version reliably prevents any pressure load in the area of the withers and the spinous processes. Here the lambskin is cut out in the spinal canal and offers more free space. This means that the saddle cloth can be easily enclosed. Ideal in combination with ourSADDLE-FIX® -System.

Quilted fabric from MATTES
We design the core of our quilted fabrics in two layers: POLYFLEX® (a deep-needled needle felt) is used for shape retention and pressure equalisation, polyester wadding for padding. We do not use foam, neoprene or gel at all. That is why the entire construction is fully air-permeable.
Breathable and form-fitting in exciting colours.
Choose in the configurator from our normal quilting fabric, the quilting fabric shine and our velvet quilting fabric.

You can choose between four different sizes. Everything from M to XL is available. So you can find the right size for your pony as well as for your warmblood. You can easily find out which size you need for your saddle by following our instructions "Measuring correctly in three steps"

Which lambskin colour should I choose if I want the natural colour?
The lambskin colour "light yellow" corresponds to the colour known as natural.
I have a light-coloured horse, can I use black lambskin?
No, lambskin can discolour. Very dark or light-coloured lambskin in particular can rub off. For a light-coloured horse, it is better to choose a lighter lambskin colour. E.g. light yellow, grey, etc.
Can lambskin rub off?
Yes, very dark and light lambskin colours can stain under certain circumstances. This can be favoured by unsuitable detergents or horse sweat. There is no problem with lighter lambskin colours.
Can I wash MATTES lambskin?
Yes, Mattes lambskin can and must be washed. You can find out how to do this and what you need to bear in mind in the washing instructions.
